Coins and Bullion

Sell gold coins and bullion in Kelowna

Gold coins, bars and bullion, silver Maple Leafs and rounds, and old Canadian silver coins, bought by weight and metal content. Everything is tested and weighed in front of you, and if you accept the estimate you are paid cash on the spot.

Do you buy gold coins and bullion in Kelowna?

Yes. We buy gold coins, bars and bullion, and silver coins, rounds and bars, at our office in downtown Kelowna. Each piece is bought for its metal content: tested and weighed at the counter in front of you, priced against the market on the day, and paid in cash on the spot if you accept. The estimate is free and carries no obligation.

On the silver side that includes Canadian and American circulated coins, commemoratives, Maple Leafs, Eagles, silver rounds, and poured or minted bars in any size. On the gold side it includes gold coins, bars and bullion, whether you have a single coin or a collection.

How is a coin or bar priced?

By weight, purity and the market price on the day. Gold and silver trade globally in troy ounces, and a troy ounce is 31.1 grams. The market price moves daily, so we show you the figure we are working from, weigh each piece on a calibrated scale facing you, and do the arithmetic where you can follow it: the weight, multiplied by the purity, priced against the market figure.

Purity is the part that varies most from piece to piece. Anything with a maple leaf and a 9999 mark is modern bullion and is close to pure. Canadian silver dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars dated 1966 and earlier are 80 percent silver, some 1967 and 1968 coins are 50 percent, and after 1968 the silver was gone entirely. Gold purity is measured in karats out of 24, and pure gold is 24k.

If a mark is worn or missing, testing settles it. We test anything unmarked at the counter, and electronic testing reads the metal without marking it. For the detail on each metal, see selling gold in Kelowna and selling silver in Kelowna.

What if a coin is worth more than its metal?

We will tell you. Coins are weighed and calculated by their metal content, but if a coin has genuine collector value above that, we will point it out rather than melting it past you. What happens next is your decision: sell it, keep it, or take the information elsewhere.

Do I need to sort or clean my coins first?

No. Bring the lot, in whatever jar, bag or box it lives in. Tarnish does not reduce the value of silver. We sort everything at the counter, test anything unmarked, weigh each group, and give you a number per group and a total.

Can I get a second opinion?

Yes, and we encourage it. You are welcome to take our figure elsewhere and compare it, and we guarantee to match or beat any quote in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley.

Coins that are part of an estate

Coins often turn up alongside jewellery, watches and sterling flatware when a family is settling an estate. We buy all of those, so the whole collection can be assessed in one visit. See selling estate jewellery in Kelowna.
