Gold Buying
Sell gold in Kelowna to the manufacturer, not a middleman
We buy gold in any karat and any condition, weigh and test it in front of you, and pay cash on the spot. If you have a better quote in the Okanagan, bring it in.
Most gold in the Okanagan changes hands two or three times before it becomes new jewellery again. A pawn shop buys it, a dealer buys it from the pawn shop, a refiner buys it from the dealer, and a manufacturer buys the refined metal. Every one of those steps is a business that needs a margin, and every one of those margins comes out of the price the original seller was offered.
We are the last link in that chain, so we can be the first. Kelowna Gold Buyers is owned and operated by Northwest Diamonds Inc., a working jewellery manufacturer since 2005. Your old gold does not get flipped up a chain. It gets refined and turned into new pieces by us. That is the entire reason we can pay more, and it is why we guarantee to match or beat any quote in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley.
What we buy
Condition genuinely does not matter. We buy gold for its metal content, so a snapped chain, a single earring, a bent ring or a tangled knot at the bottom of a drawer is worth the same per gram as a piece in perfect shape. We regularly buy:
- Rings, chains, bracelets, earrings and pendants in 10k, 14k, 18k and 22k
- Broken, tangled and mismatched scrap gold
- Gold coins, bars and bullion
- Dental gold, class rings, cufflinks, tie pins and pocket watch cases
- White gold and rose gold, which are still gold under the alloy and the plating
Stones are handled separately. If a ring holds a diamond of any size, we will assess the metal and the stone as two different things, and we will tell you which one is carrying the value. That side of it is covered in more depth on our page about selling diamonds in Kelowna.
How the number is worked out
There are only three inputs to an honest scrap gold offer, and you should be able to watch all three being measured.
Purity
Karat is a purity fraction out of 24. Pure gold is 24k. 18k is 75 percent gold, 14k is 58.5 percent, and 10k is 41.7 percent. That means two chains of identical weight can be worth very different amounts, which is why a stamped 14k piece and an unstamped one never get the same treatment until the unstamped one has been tested. If you want to read the tiny marks yourself before you come in, our guide to karat stamps and what they mean walks through 10k, 585, 750 and the plated marks that catch people out.
Weight
Gold is weighed in grams on a calibrated scale on the counter, facing you. Not in a back room, not later, not on an estimate. You watch the number appear.
The market price on the day
Gold trades globally and moves every business day. The price we are working from on a Tuesday is not the price from the Friday before. We will show you the figure we are using, and you are welcome to check it on your phone while you sit there. If you want the whole calculation written out with a worked example, we walk through it in how much is my gold worth in Kelowna.
Testing, done in front of you
A stamp is a claim, not proof. Stamps wear away, get resized over, or were never accurate to begin with, and plated pieces are frequently marked in ways that look convincing. We test every piece, and we do it at the counter where you can see it. Electronic testing reads the metal without marking the piece. Acid testing on a touchstone confirms the karat where it is needed. Neither method damages anything you would want to keep, and if a piece turns out to be plated rather than solid, we will say so plainly and hand it back.
What happens in the office
Nothing is rushed and nothing is committed until you say so. Most visits run fifteen to twenty minutes. We sort your items by karat, test them, weigh each group, show you the maths, and give you one number per group and a total. If you want to think about it, take the number and go. There is no fee for the visit and no pressure at the end of it. If you would rather understand the process before you come in, our free gold estimates in Kelowna page sets out the whole appointment step by step.
When you do decide to sell, we pay cash on the spot. As licensed buyers we record every purchase against government-issued ID, which protects honest sellers and keeps stolen goods out of the market, so bring your driver's licence or passport.
Where we are, and who we see
We are at Unit 301, 478 Bernard Avenue, ScotiaBank Building, third floor, in Downtown Kelowna, BC V1Y 6N7, a few steps from the shops and parkades on Bernard. Customers come to us from across the valley: West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Vernon and Penticton, usually because they have already collected a quote or two closer to home and want a second opinion from a manufacturer. That is exactly the visit we want. Shop around first, then bring us the best number you were given.
We are open Monday to Sunday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Appointments are preferred so you are not waiting, but walk-ins are welcome. Call +1 (250) 860-0096 in Kelowna or +1 866-872-0096 toll free, or use our contact page to arrange a time. If you also have silverware or coins to sell, see selling silver in Kelowna, and if you would rather keep the metal, we can remake it through our jewellery manufacturing service.
What to bring
Bring the whole drawer, not just the good pieces.
Broken, unstamped and mismatched items are worth exactly as much per gram as anything else. The pieces people assume are worthless are the ones that most often surprise them.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How much is my gold worth per gram in Kelowna?
It depends on three things: the karat purity of the piece, its weight in grams, and the world gold price on the day you sell. A 14k chain is 58.5 percent gold, so it is worth noticeably less per gram than an 18k one at 75 percent. We show you the market figure we are working from, weigh each karat group in front of you, and walk through the calculation before we give you a number.
Do I need to clean or repair my gold before selling it?
No, and please do not spend money on it. We buy gold for its metal content, so a broken clasp, a bent ring or years of tarnish make no difference to the price. Polishing and soldering before a sale is money you will not get back. Bring it exactly as it is.
Do you buy gold that has no karat stamp?
Yes. Missing or worn stamps are extremely common, especially on older and resized pieces. We test unstamped items electronically and, where needed, with acid on a touchstone, and we do the testing at the counter so you can watch. If a piece turns out to be plated rather than solid gold, we will tell you straight away.
What do I need to bring to sell gold?
Your items and government-issued photo ID such as a driver's licence or passport. We are licensed buyers, and every purchase is recorded against ID. You do not need receipts, boxes, certificates or original packaging to sell scrap gold.
Is a pawn shop offer the same as yours?
Usually not, because the business model is different. A pawn shop resells your gold up a chain of dealers, refiners and manufacturers, and each of those takes a margin. We are the manufacturer, so that chain does not exist and the margin stays with you. We invite you to get other quotes first, and we guarantee to match or beat any offer in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley.
